The main shaft of the CNC honing machine and the honing head are generally floating connection; but in order to improve the ability to correct the geometry of the workpiece, a rigid connection can also be used. The honing wheel and the gear to be honed are honed under the tooth side clearance, which is called single-sided meshing honing. Generally, it is used to eliminate the local high points and burrs of the gear, and to improve the surface roughness and the precision of the workpiece before honing.
The honing wheel and the gear to be honed perform honing without tooth side clearance, which is called double-sided meshing honing. Face meshing tooth honing can adopt two methods of constant pressure "variable center distance" and variable pressure "fixed center distance". In addition to honing teeth on gear honing machines, honing wheels can also be honed on gear shaving machines and ordinary lathes with a little modification. The speed and feed amount should be selected according to different specifications. Generally, gears with medium modulus can be 200-500 rpm, final feed 30-180mm/min. The grinding amount of the gear to be honed should be controlled at about 0.02mm, and the shorter the honing time, the better. Generally, the honing time of medium-modulus gears should be about 2 minutes. During the honing process, the stroke of the machine tool should not exceed the specified width of the honing, so as not to damage the honing wheel. The material of the honing wheel is relatively brittle, so it is forbidden to knock it during use to prevent damage from bumps. It should be kept properly after use.
